In Denial

I woke up this morning with absolutely no idea of what I was going to draw. Then, after a couple of hours, everything clicked and I had two strips written that I really liked. I chose this one for today.

18 Abominable Comments!

  1. bachterman Says:

    typical male behavior. :)

  2. ramón Says:

    HAHAHA!

the magic of the silent pause. brilliantly utilized here. i don’t think i’ve ever seen a roach look more dispassionate.

  3. Jes Says:

Ah! The fourth panel fills me with glee!

  4. Wellington Srbek Says:

Well, what to say? The poor bird is just human, and “errare humanum est”!

  5. Keeli Says:

xD that made me laugh so hard! I agree; the silent pause was captured PERFECTLY here.

  6. Nyss Says:

Hehe, the bird even LOOKS like a frazzled alky :P

  7. eric Hews Says:

Hahaha! Again, I love the birds, especially this ‘misunderstood’ father. Funnier still is that he’s confiding in a creature he would normally eat [and later regurgitate for the kiddos]! And he must REALLY be hung-over, because birds never lie on their backs like that unless they’re…well… dead. Thanks again for the Wednesday mood-alteration, Karl!

  8. Steve Says:

I don’t know how you do it, but you pack so much emotion into each strip. You have a rare talent Karl; thanks for sharing it..

  9. james Says:

j cannot believe i’ve never heard of this comic before now. i love it! i’m checking the updates from now on.

  10. ledaeth Says:

    simply wonderful.
i understand you know the methods of psychoanalysts quite well: no one mentioned him being a bad father, all it took was a (non-existant) arched eyebrow to make him confess that he is quite aware of his failings…

love this comic. keep the quality up.

  11. Esn Says:

I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT!

  12. Chip Says:

    Another perfect strip!

  13. Steve Says:

    I’m definitely subscribing. Absolutely brilliant!

  14. Sgt. Howard Says:

This whole webcomic concept has only recently caught my attention. THIS particular effort is beyond a shadow of a doubt the the most remarkable strip I have ever seen, paper or ‘net. I am a published cartoonist myself and have been looking into this media, but I see I have some seriouse competition from a formally named Yeti who has the brains God gave a brick and a heart of oak when little things are threatened- but if it is only himself to worry about, he is a consumate coward. I notice you have first hand experiance with an alcoholic- and are FAR more observant than the average joker regarding the habits and thought process of the beast… when does he start his twelve step program? It’s interesting he’s seeing a shrink (who SHOULD be part of his diet) but not adressing his drinking- but regardless- is it Wednesday yet

  15. Eric Theriault Says:

Yeah, like I really believe that you had no idea what to do that morning. I saw you: you came in, sat at your table and drew !
    :)

  16. Stephanie Says:

Karl, Is it possible for you to put up a “Current Update” button like Ramon has on his Kukuburi website? This would make it so much easier to go look back at the older strips then be able to jump “back to the future.” Just a thought. By the way, great web comic. I am fairly new to the whole concept and stumbled upon Kukuburi which brought me here. I really enjoy your work.

  17. karl Says:

    Thanks everyone!

Stephanie - if you click the home button up top (or the logo banner) it’ll always take you back to the current strip. Does that work for you? I’m trying to avoid too much clutter on the site, so I don’t want to add another button if I don’t have to.

  18. Steve Says:

oh so good. I do some counselling in my job- the cockroach is perfect. My kid just sent me the link- big thanks to her. You are likely the worthy successor to Bill Watterson- you show many of the same sensibilities, and the ability to move seamlessly from guffaw to sigh, or sob.
