Hi all! Thanks for sticking with this.
Rox, I’ve been inspired by all of the Miyazaki films for many years now - I didn’t have Princess Mononoke in mind specifically, but I can certainly see why you’d ask! Sometimes ideas just creep in from out of nowhere, and hopefully they’re not TOO derivative. ;)
You’re in danger of mononoke-ing out of control, Kerschl! Better reign it in before some masked vole with spaghetti on his arm shows up riding a badger…
I love how the panels get taller to coincide with the spirit bear rising Charles into the sky. That’s the kind of intuitive page setup that’ll get you into the big leagues one of these days.
Oh, wait…
Although I have to say I’m a little worried about Charles. The air’s going to be getting pretty thin soon…

Holy Frick!!! That’s dramatic as hell!
Loving all the twists and turns in this strip, Karl — just when I got it pegged, you turn it in another direction.

This is beautiful. Were you at all inspired by the film “Princess Mononoke?” The last three pages have really reminded me of it.
